Arguably the most exciting and tense game of the season didn’t pan in Celtics favour as they valiantly came back from a 2-0 deficit only for the match to be stolen from them in the dying moments of the game making it 3-3.
Despite the title being within touching distance many of the Celtic players seemed to start the match in a daze with their minds elsewhere as two soft goals were conceded very early on much to the dismay of the onlookers on and off the field leaving an uphill battle from the start.
However, Celtic finally screwed on their heads and started to make the Barbarians defense sweat. Just before halftime Celtic scored a trademark goal as the Barbarians players were left in the dust as the ball made its way down the left wing before being pulled back to Dom Lytwyn to fire home in to the top corner.
Things were looking positive again especially with the introduction of the Celtic Avengers in the form of Neil, Colm, and Colum. Celtic relentlessly pressurised the Barbarians defense but couldn’t get on level terms until Colum Curtis scored a miraculous goal directly from a corner kick to level things up.
With 7 minutes to go Colum stepped up again and kept his composure to control a bouncing ball in the area before firing it in to the top corner to send his team in to ecstasy putting Celtic 3-2 ahead. Unfortunately, there was still time for Celtic hearts to be broken as a ball over the top followed by a looping shot which seemed to last an eternity in the air floated in to the back of the net. 3-3 with the final whistle blowing shortly after.
Arguably the most exciting and tense game of the season which displayed how cruel a game football can be but perhaps it’s why we love it so much. For now, the title race is out of Celtic hands once again but all hope is not yet lost.
