In this eagerly awaited quarter final the Celtics took on the French and we knew there was something in the air apart from smog. With ten minutes to kick off we did a fierce warm up with 9 players and our confidence was brewing! Within seconds off the kick off we made a team.
Celtics started brightly and had the most of the possession as Shane McCormack's hair was seen all over the pitch. However, due to the Celtics looking at Shanes hair, we conceded a goal and we were suddenly 0-1 down. Celtic seem to have a knack for getting into hairy situations.Shane knew the responsibility held with him and his fluffy hair and only he knew how to get things back to square one. So within minutes, Shane was poised in front of an open goal, he saw his hair in headlines, struck it with his left foot and blew it into the side netting. Shane thought to himself "I should have gotten a hair cut before this game". You could say Shane was not a cut above the rest.
However, this was not the end as Celtics kept their Head and Shoulders held high and soon after Richie was illegally tackled from behind in the box. The referee looked at his linesman, then looked at Shane, and Shane looked at the referee and confidently gave him the nod to award the penalty.
Shane, who never took a penalty in his life before, stepped up with confidence. Dom asked "Shane, are you feeling confident?" and Shane re-a-sheared him with a slap across his face, hurting his hand in the meantime. After the first miss from Shane, he was not going to leave any split ends out there today, he thought to himself. He looked at the goalkeeper, looked at the bottom right hand corner, hair blowing in the wind. Shane knew the goalkeeper couldn't concentrate on the ball as the fluff was blowing in the wind majestically. Shane then planned to hit it into the bottom left hand corner. He scored, roofing the ball into the net at a comfortable height for the keeper. But the keeper dived the wrong way. We were back! 1-1.
Half time came and at this point we were all starting to feel the heat. Shane's hair was now turning more ginger and this would prove vital in the second half and we used it as a reflector against our opposition. One thing for sure, Shane's hair was much more conditioned than our levels of fitness.
Second half and we continued to press on the French. With the majority of the possession and confidence soaring from our hardy defence with Quentin through the middle with Dom and then up top with Richie making several runs we knew this game was ours for the taking. Some excellent saves from Dave between the posts kept the score line level.
Then finally, Richie was put through and shot a beautiful lushes shot into the corner of the net. The Celtic's finished the game strongly and should have netted a few more goals but we showed a lot of heart to come through in the end. Celtics march on and with more players to come back we are looking forward to the semi final.
Excellent performances all over the pitch and at the end of the day... hair we are, in the semi finals!
